Are you ready for some hockey? It may not be prime time yet for hockey in Anchorage, but the wait is over for all diehard fans ready to start the season as soon as possible.
The University of Alaska Anchorage’s Kendall Hockey Classic begins October 11 and goes through October 12 at Sullivan Arena. The four-team competition pits defending tournament titleholders, the UAA Seawolves, against University of Alaska Fairbanks, Air Force Falcons, and Quinnipiac University.
First year UAA team coach Matt Thomas is only the fifth head coach in UAA’s fifty-nine-year history. According to the UAA website, Coach Thomas “comes to the Seawolves after nine years as a head coach and general manager in the ECHL, including the last four-plus seasons with the Stockton Thunder” where he led that team to the 2012-2013 Kelly Cup Finals. Coach Thomas welcomes another UAA team recruit, Josh Ciocco, as the team’s assistant coach.
The UAA Seawolves have won the Kendall Classic two years in a row, and with homecoming coinciding this same weekend, this year’s tournament could be the opening of another thrilling season for the Seawolves. Add to their winning streak the fact that the team’s new lead and assistant coaches have played together in the past, and this team could be seeing championships down the line in the 2013-2014 season.
The Seawolves Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can also purchase tickets by calling (907) 786-1562 or emailing wolftix@uaa.alaska.
See you at the Kendall Classic!
